The film then jumps forward six years to the RIMPAC 2012 international naval exercises. I'm not going to spoil the scene by explaining exactly how the smitten Alex Hopper responds but let's just say that you wouldn't believe how much trouble an attempt to get a chicken burrito one minute too late can cause, and the following morning his elder brother, who is a naval officer, says that Alex is going to join the navy where Stone can keep an eye on him. Cut to a bar in Hawaii, where two brothers, Stone and Alex Hopper, (Alexander Skarsgård and Taylor Kitch respectively) are drinking to celebrate the birthday of the younger brother, Alex.Īn exceptionally beautiful woman, Samantha "Sam" Shane (Brooklyn Decker) who turns out to be the daughter of the admiral commanding the US fleet based at Hawaii, (Liam Neeson) comes into the bar to ask for a chicken burrito, to be told that it is one minute too late for her to order food. The programme to send the signal is called the "Beacon Project" and the transmitters are based in Hawaii. The film opens with a prologue set in 2006, when Earth starts to beam a "Hello" radio message to a planet in another solar system, nicknamed "Planet G," which scientists believe would have the necessary conditions for intelligent life. The Blu-Ray disc has some moderately good extras and produced a very clear picture and sound. This review is based on having watched the film at home on Blu-ray.

Largely ridiculous but quite entertaining film, inspired by a Hasbro naval warfare video game which in turn took quite a bit of its' inspiration from the classic pen and paper game "Battleship." However, rather than being about a battle between human navies this film is a story of a battle against alien invaders.
